Red Umbrella - Intervention

It is always a pleasure to see an old friend. It is not always a great idea to get chili dogs with said friend. (cupids hot dogs in simi valley is a no-go) Thank goodness I had a song waiting to help me digest all of this. This post will be short since I am helping him build a website, but I strongly suggest checking out the myspace page for this band. Its worth the trip and I like how they can cover so many genres!

Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks - Gardenia

I bought this album before the song had finished playing. (the second time)
I spent far too long on this bands website snooping around and reading. They are quite the bunch. I was curious to see if i could figure out what a "jick" was, and it is a mash up of exactly what my brain thought of when it heard it. "J from Jagger plus Mick minus M" everything about them seems to be upside down and backwards or missing pronouns.... and I love it. I love finding a band that is as fun and enthusiastic as their music is.

Steel Train Alone on the Sea

Who said nothing good comes out of Jersey? Anyone from Manhattan I suppose. Sound, this band has it. I guess I am starting to notice a trend of being drawn to bands with drums in the foreground of their sounds... I really don't know if I have much to say about these guys, they toured with Tegan and Sarah. That fact and their music alone speaks volumes. I am going to have to pick up a copy of trampolines. ASAP.

Frank Jordan - Funnyhead

Wow. I have been pretty swamped these last few days. When I was not sick, I was working. When I wasn't working I was helping my nephew Reuben edit his school project... I wasn't neglecting my music duties, just the writing part, however. >_> So I apologize for the delay and here are the three songs I listened to the last three days. I owe them all to Pandora.

Some people like to find artists who are barely putting out an EP and claim them as their own and follow them their whole careers. I have a sick habit of finding bands that I absolutely LOVE two weeks before they decide to break up so i can never see them in concert. (Broken Family Band...) However the time I enjoy finding them is much how I found frank Jordan. I really like his music and he already has a few albums out with plenty more to come. The only downside to finding talent like this with albums aplenty.... is I need a second job :(

The 88 - Coming Home

My cold seems to be turning into bronchitis... >_> blech.
So my post is late because I was loafing and sleeping.... and catching up on some of my shows on Hulu.com (I do not care for the sleek new look, Bones kept freezing...) One of which is Community. I have always loved the theme song and went looking to find out if it was a full length song, alas it is not. However, it is written by a real band! So I settled for a song I had never heard before, convenient, to say the least. I really like the upbeat sound they have coupled with the highly punctuating drums. They remind me a lot of the Arkells. (whom I adore) I will defiantly iTunes them (Dear Lord I have become one of those people who use things that are not verbs... as verbs) and listen more. they seem to be pretty chill people too, they spent there whole music video budget buying people free gas and little kids ice cream and such. I like the idea of coming home; it implies that I won't always be here, but in the end I will find my way back here.

Paper Route -Dance on Our Graves

Back at work today. I have had many, many people tell me I HAVE to listen to this band. Now it is done. I have been innoculated. This day is weighing on me... I am now far behind on my work and playing catch up still with a cough and still with a raging headache. God grant me strength,  I have so much to do. Please allow me this one tangent: I had a wonderful discussion on Respect with my nephew last night. We talked aobut the lack of true ladies and gentlemen nowadays, and what did it mean to be polite, humble, respectful, dignified and above all loving. He at 11 years old has a greater grasp of these things than I do. His child like wonder and hope for the furture ignited dormant parts of my heart I had chose to hide from. So, thank you Benjamin, Thank you for reminding me why I love.

The Temper Trap -Sweet Disposition

Today's song is brought to you by the letter G, the number 4 and Paloma Ynda-Ramsey. So I don't quite know where to start...
do I start with the Indonesian fellow who
sounds like he should be in Ah-HA despite
the fact he has an incredible Freddy Mercuryesqe
mustache?(I would like to point out that spell
check didn't flag 'Mercuryesqe') Do I start with
the obvious fact that rollerskating in space is
awesome? Or simply that I thought this was
going to be a cover of a U2 song for
the longest time? Nevertheless, I can't say I
didn't like it, I will have to listen to it a few more
times. Apparently it was on the soundtrack to a
movie I never saw, '500 Days of Summer.'
It was at least an uplifting song though I am
not earnestly seeking out more songs by them
right away...

Vasily Sergeyevich Kalinnikov - Symphony No.1 in G-minor

Today started just like any other day apart from being ravaged by what seems to be the evil spawn of the flu and  arthritis.... so I stayed home from work and half delirious searched for some new music to sooth my headache and came across this magnificent piece... it's broken up into 5 parts on you tube and truth be told I only listened to two before I fell asleep. however, what I did listen to was extraordinary. I love the apparent battle raging in the swelling and receding of the music. This coupled with my hot lemon-honey tea made for a bearable morning heading into a wonderful afternoon nap.

MotherMother- Hayloft

This is a band I have been hearing great things about from a few of my favorite artists and I thought it would be a good place to start. Quirky doesn't even begin to sum up this song but catchy helps. Normally I don't care for heavy repetition in songs however, I think it works very well for "Hayloft". It took me a bit by surprise to find out the song was about a father with a shotgun heading to the hayloft to find his daughter and her lover, but I love the sound this band has. I definitely will be looking into them more. I throughly enjoyed the way they mixed both the male and female vocals into the song. Plus the video was captivating and silly in the way the B-52s were... there were a few random parts that made me giggle.
